Despite Ban, Smoking’s Popularity Remains High
The people who hate smokers have been left confused and annoyed. When they walk into bars and resteraunts that are subject to the recent smoking ban, they find, to their absolute horror, PEOPLE ARE STILL SMOKING!!! How dare they, after all the work the non-smokers put in to get smoking banned from places they didn’t necessarily want to go to anyway!!! All that work, all that campaigning, just so we could ban smoking and have people laugh in the face of our legeslative efforts!!! The outrage!!!
I am not a smoker, and I don’t care if people smoke in public places. I don’t frequent places that don’t have a non smoking area, and even less places where it does no matter if there is a non smoking area. I believe in the almighty dollar. If it were to the point where having a smoking section became a profit losing burden, then the owners would have a non smoking establishment. Some hotel chains have gone non smoking due to the decreasing smoker population and the insistance of the non smoking population to have rooms that don’t stink. This is how it should work everywhere else.
But it’s not that way for people who think they know better what you should do with your life than you do. They go out and make laws that prohibit the behavior that they consider evil, to make sure that you can’t do it since you are clearly incapable of making the decision for yourself despite mountains of evidence proving they are right. Haven’t you seen the truth propoganda on the TV, in the newspaper, on the internet? But still you keep smoking, so they have to do something about it, and get it banned.
But still you smoke. You still go to your favorite establishment after work to relax, and have a beer and a smoke. Now, it’s even better because not only are you enjoying the cigarette, but you are defying those who constantly tell you what to do, and what is good for you, and how to live your life.
They say that second hand smoke will kill you, and personally, I believe them. This is why I choose not to subject myself to it. Then they claim that the poor wait staff gets sick, and they can’t get any other kind of job, so it isn’t fair that they have to inhale the smoke. Well, that sucks, and the world isn’t a fair place.
Bottom line, this is a free country last time I checked. It’s getting less so as time goes on, but hopefully the smokers, and other groups like them, will unite to keep their freedoms intact. This is also a democracy, where the majority rules. I say if the majority of customers to an establishment want to permit smoking there, then so be it, let them vote with their dollars, and engage in the great game of capitolism, that is what truly drives this country forward.

I have very simple solution for those non-smokers who want to stamp out smoking in public places.
When you are asked where you want to sit, ALWAYS CHOOSE THE SMOKING SECTION. We know you won’t be
smoking, so you will have created a space within which no smoking will occur while you are there.
Also, the space is not available to smokers. If enough non-smokers fill the smoking section, the smokers
must necessarily sit in the non-smoking section where the can’t smoke.
Simple!
