The Layman’s Distance Measurement
Have you ever noticed that shows on the Discovery channel measure disatances with a fairly unique measure? The Discovery channel is not the only place that I have seen or heard this, it’s just what caused me to think about it. This universally understood measure of distance is the football field, or FF.
I think that the reason that they convert vast height and distances into FF is that they feel that the simpletons watching the program could not possibly understand the distances involved without invoking a sports analogy. So, just so everyone can understand how far away the sun is, I have converted the distance to the sun, 93 million miles, or 1 AU, to the universally understood FF - 1,636,380,000.
Now I get it, the sun is really far away! 1 AU = 1.63638e9 FF
Despite Ban, Smoking’s Popularity Remains High
The people who hate smokers have been left confused and annoyed. When they walk into bars and resteraunts that are subject to the recent smoking ban, they find, to their absolute horror, PEOPLE ARE STILL SMOKING!!! How dare they, after all the work the non-smokers put in to get smoking banned from places they didn’t necessarily want to go to anyway!!! All that work, all that campaigning, just so we could ban smoking and have people laugh in the face of our legeslative efforts!!! The outrage!!!
I am not a smoker, and I don’t care if people smoke in public places. I don’t frequent places that don’t have a non smoking area, and even less places where it does no matter if there is a non smoking area. I believe in the almighty dollar. If it were to the point where having a smoking section became a profit losing burden, then the owners would have a non smoking establishment. Some hotel chains have gone non smoking due to the decreasing smoker population and the insistance of the non smoking population to have rooms that don’t stink. This is how it should work everywhere else.

Hunting Accident
It’s all over the news, the Vice President had a hunting accident and shot another man. Fact is, this happens fairly frequently. However, like shark bites and other things that the media likes to sensationalize this is somehow a much bigger deal than it has ever been before.
The last article that I saw was questioning if Chaney should be charged with manslaughter if the other man dies. To me the answer to that would be, what would happen to any other individual in the same predicament? If the victim is asked while he is still alive if Chaney had intentially shot him, and he responded no, would there still be charges brought?
I would take fairly good odds that if the man does die, his family will bring a civil suit against Chaney so fast his head will spin.
So, let fly with the “Dick Chaney invites X hunting” jokes.
The Sun Online - News: Fired staff get 36p crisps
The management of this company is obviously very Mr. Burns like. Not only do the former employees not have a job, they get a slap on the face on the way out the door.
I bet the managers were on a closed circuit TV watching the spectacle and maniacly laughing.
