The Butterfly Effect

This really happened.

Yesterday a friend and I were returning to work from lunch. I stopped to get something out of my truck, and used the keyless entry pad to get in as I didn’t have my keys with me. After that we got to talking about what you could do with the keypad once you have entered the code. The code only unlocks the drivers door, but if you want to open the passengers door as well, you just press the right button. If you get out of the truck, and didn’t lock the doors, all you need to do is press a couple of buttons, and the doors lock.

Fast forward to this morning. On my way into work I stopped at the gas station to pick up some stuff. I decided that since it was cold, I would leave my truck running. The problem is that if you attempt to lock the door when the truck is running, it automatically unlocks the door, thereby keeping you from locking your keys in the truck when it’s running. This has kept me in the past from leaving the truck running with the keys in to avoid it getting stolen, which is very common in the winter. Now that I have the new knowledge on how to lock the truck with the door shut, I can finally leave it running.

I pulled into the gas station and parked next to another vehicle who’s owner had also left running. I went into the store and got what I was there for, walked out and the other car was gone. I thought nothing of it, and started to leave when the owner of the car came out of the store looking very confused, and then very mad. I didn’t know if I should laugh or feel sorry for the guy. I didn’t see anything as the car was gone by the time I left the store.

Now of course I would not have left my truck running if I was unable to lock it, but still this was very ironic.
