Scott Peterson

Ever since I put this software on my website a few weeks ago I have wondered what I would possibly put here that anyone would want to read? While I still don’t really know the answer to that question, I know that after reading many other blogs across the Internet, there really isn’t much that people have to say anyway.

So, with renewed confidence that I don’t really have to say anthing important here, I guess I can say whatever comes to mind. Today, since it’s all over TV and the Internet, I was thinking about the death penalty and what it really means when you recieve that sentence.

The latest recipient of the death penalty, by lethal injection, is Scott Peterson. If you don’t know who that is, it does not really matter. You just need to know that he has been sentensed to death for killing his wife and unborn child.

I just had another thought, about the inconsistency between an unborn child when speaking of murder versus when speaking about abortion. I may or may not bring that up at a later date, but then again, maybe not.

So, what was really done today was to sentence someone to 20 - 25 years of inprisonment, and appeals court apperances in an attempt to reverce the death penalty. This will create a burden on the jail system, and costs all taxpayers money. Additionally, it brings into question the accuracy and thoroughness of our justice system. If we were sure that the system worked, why not take him out of the courtroom and into the execution chamber?

Why? Because it has happened in the past that the accused person was not guilty of the crime. In this case, I don’t thing that will ever happen, but then again, I did not hear the testimony. Robert Blake was declared not guilty today, and you know that the family of his deceased wife will be dragging him into court again as well.

I think that what we really need to do is to decide once and for all if our justice system is really working as well as it should be, and if it is, remove or put severe restrictions on the appeals process.
